Faith and Finances

Brothers and sisters, today we will pray about faith and finances. Because money is important in our lives, God’s word devotes much space to them. In fact, research has shown that there are 3,225 references to financial matters in the Bible. We do not have to wonder what God thinks about money and its use when we search the Scriptures.

Money is not evil, though the love of money is. I want us to look at 1Timothy: 6:10
“For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs”.

1. I would like us to look at Matthew chapter 6:25.
“Do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear”
In fact Jesus said that our lives should be different from those of unbelievers who naturally run after these things. They not only run after them, they also worry about them. God should be seen as our real source. Those with salaries and those without have the privilege of seeing God provide for their needs.
I would like us to look at Matthew 6: 33.
“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.’’
If we are honest, we can admit that money, at times, can become our number one priority- not God and His kingdom. The Lord, out of his love for us, can choose to retrieve money from us in hope that by doing this, He can grab our attention and help us to set up our priorities right again.

Let us pray that as children of God we will seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, as all other things will be added unto us.

2. I would like us to look at one of the commandments in Exodus 20:17 which states the following:
‘You should not covet your neighbour’s house. You shall not covet your neighbour’s wife or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbour.’
In this Bible verse we are told not to compare ourselves with others, nor covet what they have. I also want us also to look at Philippians 4: 11- 13 where Paul said:
“I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through him who gives me strength”
In these Bible verses we are told to be content with the provisions that God has made for us. Be absolute convinced about the justice of God, that God provided us with the right resources. He knows best how much he can trust us with and what we need in order to fulfil his calling in our lives.
Let us pray to the Lord for contentment in our lives for all the provisions that God has made available for us so far.

3. We need ideas, character and a government which protects our opportunities. Ideas are the primary source for the creation of wealth. Every person is created in the image of God and possesses a unique source of creativity, a well of unending ideas. Wealth is only as limited as one’s ideas or as limitless as his creative genius. Good business ideas must serve the real needs of others to be successful.
Let us pray that God will give us ideas that will serve the needs of others and will produce wealth. Let us pray for our government to give and protect our opportunities.

4. Every Christian is to be generous. We need to keep giving to the Lord as he leads us. Let us look at 2Corinthians 9:6-7.
“Remember this, whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver”.
Let us pray that as children of God we will give from our hearts and not under compulsion, and God will see us as cheerful givers.

5. I would like us to look at Romans 13:8
“Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another’’.
God wants us to live responsibly within His provision for us, to be up-to date with our financial obligations. It is financial wisdom for us to borrow what we can reasonably expect to repay. We may borrow money for a car or a house but we should be careful not to accumulate debt beyond our ability to pay. This is not to say that the Lord may not tell us specifically to take a step of faith involving our finances, in which case we are to obey.
Regarding credit cards, much wisdom must be applied when using them.
Let us pray that God will help us to live responsibly within his provision for us.

A word came from God on the 7th of February in church during a time of reflection on the ‘Rumours of God’. This word stated that ‘giving should be anonymously and without expecting anything in return’.
Matthew 6:1-4 states:
‘1. Be careful not to do your ‘acts of righteousness’ before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no rewards from your Father in heaven.
2. So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honoured by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their rewards in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.’


The Winning the battle of the Mind

The greatest battle in the world is the battle of the mind that takes place in our everyday lives. The operation of our minds can be compared to the manufacturing process of a factory (Input, processing and Output).

We are always caught between obeying God, Self or the Devil. This struggle leads to what can be referred to as “internal battles”. This internal battles if not properly managed would eventually play out in the way and manner one behaves

 In other to win this battle, we must endeavor to do the following

  • Live by the spirit and pray by the spirit. Cautiously invite the Holy Spirit to come inside you.
  • Master your emotions.
  • Do not listen to everything you hear.
  • Do not major on minor things.
  • Test everything that is going on in your mind.
  • Think things through
  • Do not condemn yourself and do not condemn other people around you.
  • Listen to the quite still small voice of God.
  • Do not major on small things
  • Let your heart be focus on the things of God.
  • Do not have an opinion on everything.
  • Maximize your moment, make the best use of your time and take advantage of every good opportunities.
  • Live life to the fullest. Do not be stagnant. Take risk and do new things. Keep on growing. Grow physically and spiritually.

The bible says the mercies of the LORD are new every morning. Therefore, Keep asking, seeking, knocking. “For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened (Luke11:10).”

The War of the mind (lesson 3)

A man or a woman is the summation of what he or she thinks. What you think is what you are. What you think is what you will become.Proverbs 23:7 says for as a man thinks in his heart, so is he.

As we studied last week in the story of Peter (Mathew 16); we discovered that there are 3 things that contend for the mind of a person (self, God and the Devil). In that encounter (Mathew 16:13-23) a contention for the occupying the mind was displayed.
– one was when he caught the revelation of who Jesus is i.e. Jesus being the son of God and the Messiah and Jesus was so excited and said to him, flesh and blood could not have revealed this to you but My Father who is in heaven.
– Another was when Peter said to Jesus, “how it be LORD that this should happen to you? And Jesus rebuked him, saying get behind Me Satan!
Here is the same man working with Jesus in the same experience but responding differently based on the state of his Mind.

If we can win the war of the mind then we are victorious. Genesis 4:1-5 relays a story of two brothers from the same parent, Who both gave an offering to God, while God accepted that of Abel, He rejected Cain`s offering because Cain did not give his offering in a proper way (do you know that God deserve the best? He deserves all the best). Now if God tells you I don’t like your attitude, what should you do? The right thing to do is to repent and please God the next time. But what did Cain do when God rejected his offering? The scripture tells us (Genesis 4:5) that Cain was very angry and his countenance fell.

why was Cain angry? The funny thing is that he was not angry with God but was angry with his brother. Why was he angry with his brother when his brother did no wrong? Wrong thinking. In verse 6 and 7, the LORD cautioned Cain saying, “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it. ”Anger leads to incredibly things, Watch your Anger.(God told Cain to watch it “sin lies at the door and its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.” But guess what? Cain did not rule over his anger, he did not repent and change his ways before God rather he allowed anger to take the best part of him and what did next was to kill his brother!
If you allow sin to rule over you, the result is disastrous. but we thank God for deliverance, for we`re delivered in Christ Jesus.

We also learnt last week that we should be the gate-men of our minds. It is your responsibility to secure around your mind keep evil things from coming in. 2 Corinthians 10:3-6 “though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled”. You need to take control of your thoughts so that when the thoughts of anger, jealousy, “I am not worth it” comes,  you give it no place in your mind.

where does our thinking comes from? What motivates our thinking? What influence our thinking? Now think about it this way, your mind is a factory, and what happens in a factory? A number of things, firstly the gathering of raw materials, processing of the raw materials into products, then packaging of the products and finally distribution of the products for human consumption. So also does the mind, it has raw materials that are processed  in the “heart” to deliver the product  and hence the bible says above all else, guard thy heart; for out of it flows the issues of life (Proverbs 4:23).

If we look into the life Cain, what were the raw materials in his heart? Anger, jealousy! God warned him not to bring these raw materials into his factory, his “heart” so that he does not have a destructive product. However Cain chose to accept these raw materials into his heart, processed it and committed murder. Cain could have stopped his anger from going any further by asking God what to do in order to ensure his offering to be accepted. Better still he should have asked his brother what he did specially that made his offering accepted by God.

Its true that we have five senses that helps us in our perception, judgement and actions/reactions – However we can’t totally rely on our 5 senses, because we interpret and perceive the same thing differently.

What else determines our thinking? Our experiences. Many a times we think based on our experiences and therefore we allow our experiences to limit us. Please do not let your experience limit you because God will do new things, God will make a way where there is no way. He will create rivers in the desert so do not let your experience hold you down. If you have failed before, do not let your failure hold you down, move on and press forward because God will surely do a new thing.

Another thing that determines our thinking is the friends and the company we keep, “the saying goes, show me your friends and I will tell you who you are.” I have noticed that many people are only able to get to as far as the company they keep; hence, the company you keep is so important because it will shape your thinking and your mindset. The truth is, as a man thinks so he is (Proverbs 23:7). When you keep company with God and with His people, it will cultivate your mind.

How is it that University of Cambridge or University of Oxford produces top leaders in the society? It’s because these schools environment shape the students mind and make them think like leaders. Another thing that determines our thinking is our environment. Our environment shape our thinking and this is why the Sabbath is so important, because God`s plan for the Sabbath is the day when you take a complete rest, the day you switch your mind off normal routine of work and do something spiritual and communicate with God and enjoy the presence of God. On this day, you can switch off from your normal activity and come to God, worship Him, adore Him.

Also, our mind are shaped by the family we live in, whether good or bad. Some people have godly influence from their family why some others have ungodly influences from their family. We see through scripture that many of the people who did evil (Jezebel etc.) were producing people like themselves. But God expects us to build up our families in a Godly way. God`s desire is that we would master our hearts, our minds and begin to think the way Jesus did.

I pray for you, go beyond your senses in Jesus name. Go beyond your experiences in Jesus name. Go beyond your friends in Jesus name. Go beyond your environment in Jesus name and go beyond your family in Jesus name.

How to win the war of the Mind

When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?”So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven (Vs.13-17). Mathew 16:13-23

The bible passage tells us of the story of Jesus and His disciples, when Jesus asked them who do men say I am? Simon Peter answered, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God and Jesus answered to Simon, that is not you speaking, for you must have received from heaven revelation about Me, and you are so correct because only heaven could have revealed it you, for your carnal mind could not have revealed this to you but this can only come from heaven. And from that time onward (Vs. 21), Jesus began to show to His disciple that He must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day. Here was our LORD Jesus Christ thinking, “since this people have caught the understanding of who I am therefore I can share with them greater revelations and what is to happen in the future.”

Then Peter took Jesus aside and began to rebuke Him, saying how it be LORD that this should happen to you? And Jesus turned and said to Peter get thee behind Me Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God but the things of men.”

So why did Peter transform into three different people? From the passage, we can see that Peter is a man in three parts. There is Peter the carnal and the physical man, the one Jesus Christ described as flesh and blood Peter. And there is Peter, the one who caught great things and revelation of heaven. Then, there is Peter, the one who is an instrument for Satan. The same person in three parts! Whether he is here or here or there, it all depends on his mind. Therefore, it is all about the question of the mind because the “mind” is a vehicle for our action. The mind is so powerful and the battle field where the greatest war on earth takes place.

In the book of Genesis, the bible tells us Adam and Eve walked closely with God everyday in the Garden of Eden. One would think that if there is anyone could ever fall, it wouldn’t be Adam and Eve,however they fell because of the suggestion from Satan.

The world system is carnal and that’s the reason why we cannot afford to live according to worldly standards. 2 Corinthians 10:4 tells us the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty through God for pulling down strongholds.

2 Corinthians 10:5 says casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. In other words, we are admonished to bring every thought to the obedience of Christ; this means whatever our thoughts, before it proceeds any further bring it to captivity, and the LORD will help us in Jesus name. When you notice the symptoms of sickness, rather than accept it, speak the word of God to it and address the situation to the obedience of the LORD. Thoughts have the ability and capability to take over once life if entertained and not managed.

The 2015 US Open women single finalist, Flavia Pennetta retires after winning the title. Some months ago she said this was to be her last season, little did she now she would win the final. Despite many abortive attempts to win the tournament, she persevered  diligently and eventually won the US Open trophy on the 12th of September 2015 . What a great miracle! One can’t imagine the challenges she would have faced ? Possibly, she received discouraged from people around or had thoughts that she could never win the title but she kept fighting those thoughts and kept holding. Eventually her season of joy came. Praise the LORD! It doesn`t matter how long you have been trying, or how challenging the situation has been,what’ crucial is that God is able and with Him ALL things are possible. Just believe and keep pressing forward, you will get there in Jesus name.

Philippians 4:4 says “rejoice in the Lord always”. Again I will say, rejoice! Whenever you feel discouraged, what are you to do? You encourage yourself to rejoice! Always. In the physical, you can see trouble but in the spiritual, there is a way through the trouble. The Israelites saw the red sea but they did not know that in the spiritual there was way through the red sea, only Moses could see there was a way through the red sea through the help of God.

Philippians 4:5 says “let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand”. And verse 6-7 says “be anxious for nothing but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus”.

Most people worry about everything, and the truth according to scientific calculations reveals that of the numerous things we worry about, only about 15% of them actually take place. The Bible in verse 6-7 admonishes…..that by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

This means when you allow God, He will help you guard your mind-“this is where victory takes place, in the mind”

verse 8-9 says “finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and seen in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you”. So from today allow God, help you guard your mind, select the things that you allow into your mind. Be purposeful about it, avoid any form of garbage- do a litmus test on your thoughts- is it just? Is it pure? Is it lovely? Is it good? does it glorify God? Is this thing praise worthy?

We`ve got to think about the things that are pure and are of good report. This is how we equip ourselves to win the battle of the mind.  For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7)   Praise God! Halleluiah!

The Battlefield of the Mind

For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God (vs. 5-8) Romans 8:1-39

One of the greatest battle in our lives is the “battle of the mind.” The mind is the place where the direction of life is decided. The mind is so important because it`s the crucible where life is shaped, and hence the reason why the mind is always constantly or contently battled for everyday. Everyday God is contending for your life, He wants to win your life; He wants to speak with you and He wants to impact your life.

In the same way, there are many other forces in life trying to win your mind. Take advert for example! Why do companies spend so much money in advert? It is because they want to win your mind. They want to persuade your mind to think about them and their products.

The mind is a great battlefield. For some people, it gets to the point where their mind is completely taking over by evil forces, and they begin to suffer for depression to the extent that it becomes a psychiatric case completely. If we can think like what GOD wants us to think and see like what God wants us to see, then there is nothing impossible for us.

Psalm 127:1 says unless the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; unless the LORD guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain. Without the help of the LORD, it is useless to build a house or a city. If the LORD is not helping the builders then the building is going to collapse. If the LORD does not keep a family, a city, a country, or a nation, then the watchman stays awake in vain.

Now in our own generation we have seen countries disappear! Look at Libya, and what happened to Gaddafi! Look at Iraq, and what happened to Saddam Hussein! Unless the LORD builds a house, unless the LORD watches over a city or a country, it is only a matter of time, because everything will disappear. Unless the LORD builds a house, they labor in vain who builds it. Unless the LORD watches over you, everything will turn out to be wasted. Without the help of the LORD, it is useless to build. So we need God to move and hold our lives, because without God everything may look rosy and nice for a season but the end of it all will be a great disaster. If nothing else, there is heaven waiting for us. Any life without Christ will end up in hell. It’s the plans of the devil to deceive man and make us believe there is no hell, but God says there is heaven and there is hell, and heaven is God`s divine plan for us, therefore we need to work with God to be with Him in eternity.

GOD is building our lives, and as we work with Him, He will do more of what He is doing, praise GOD! Hallelujah!

Looking back to our lives, we thank God for so many good and wonderful things that the LORD has done for us, some of these things are that:

God is building us together as one great family.

God is building us as church.

God is building our believe in Him (2 Chronicles 20:20 tells us that the nation was under so much pressure, the enemies has attacked them on every side, but when they stood together God spoke, and with that they were able to win). Believe in the LORD your God and so shall you be established. Believe in His prophet and so shall you prosper. I want you to believe in God more, because as you stick closely to God, He is able to build your life.

We thank for you also believing in me, your Pastor and for honoring me as your Pastor. 2 Chronicles 20:20 says……believe in the LORD your God, and so shall you be established; believe in His prophets, and so shall you prosper. So thank you for honoring the grace of God upon my life.

We also thank God for the difficult circumstances or situations that we have been able to conquer, we thank God for those long lonely nights, when everything seemed dark and look difficult to see. We can remember so many times in our lives when life was so difficult, times of great loneliness, times of great betrayer, But God saw us through, and we overcame by the blood of the lamb and by the words of our testimonies.

Brothers and sister, when God builds you, there will be a sweet outcome. Romans 8:28 tells us all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. Vs. 30 says those whom He predestined, these He also called, those whom He called, these He also justified, and those whom He justified, these He also glorified. And in Vs 31, He said what then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? Vs. 35 goes on to say, who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulations, or distress, or persecution, or famine or nakedness or peril or sword? And vs. 37 says in all these things we are more than conqueror through Him who loved us.

God is building, so be encouraged and;

Appreciate what God has built or He is building in your life already.
Celebrate what God has built or He is building in your life.
Remember what you had before now, when you were not what you are now.
Magnify what God has built or He is building in your life.
Protect and grow what God has built or He is building in your life. Protect it! Grow it!
Anoint and make an altar over what God has built or He is building in your life.
And share with others, the church or family or friends the stories of what God is doing in your life.

Hold on to God`s hands because God`s hand will shape and keep your life.

What do you do when God shows up?

 The Lord showed Himself to Abraham by the oak trees of Mamre, as he sat at the tent door in the heat of the day. Abraham looked up and saw three men standing in front of him. When he saw them, he ran from the tent door to meet them. He put his face to the ground and said, “My lord, if I have found favor in your eyes, please do not pass by your servant. Let us have a little water brought to wash your feet. Rest yourselves under the tree. And I will get a piece of bread so you may eat and get strength. After that you may go on your way, since you have come to your servant.” (Vs. 1-5) Genesis18:1-18

Brothers and sister, Peniel is just the beginning, God has opened a new season, a season of great rest,  a season of great grace and great favour. God has declared over us His blessings and with God, everything is possible in this season. People are beginning to receive incredible revelations, because the heavens are opens over us.

Daniel 11:32 says they that do know their God shall be strong and do exploits (KJV). God has shown up therefore we shall be strong and we shall do exploits in Jesus name. God has shown up and we have been energised and strengthened, and so we should go out and do exploit for the Lord. And as we go out to do exploit for the Lord, he will give us more enablement to do that which He has commanded us to do.

In Genesis 18 when God visited Abraham and Sarah, what did they do? The first thing Abraham did was to welcome God and make him comfortable. Therefore, when God shows up, welcome God and make Him comfortable. That was what Abraham did. He welcomed God and made Him comfortable. Hebrew 13:2 says do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels. This season think about what will make God comfortable in your life and do it.

The next thing you must do when God shows up is to give Him time and full attention. When the Lord turned up in Abraham’s home, he and his wife shut down everything and they began to make preparation to make Him comfortable. Also when Jesus visited Mary and Mather`s house, while Mather was busy preparing food Mary sat at the feet of Jesus. In other words, when God visits, give Him your full attention, give Him your time. “Someone said we must give God the tithe (1/10th) of our time” So for 24 hours time a day, we must give God 1/10th of this time, because the more time you spend with God, the more revelations and instructions you have from Him, and the more God begins to share His own agenda with you.

When God shows up, what must you do? Prepare the best meal for Him. Find out what pleases God and give it to Him in this season. Genesis 18:6-8 says so Abraham ran into the tent to Sarah, and said, “Hurry and get three pails of fine flour, mix it well, and make bread.” Then Abraham ran to the cattle and took out a young and good calf. He gave it to the servant to make it ready in a hurry. He took milk and cheese and the meat which he had made ready, and set it in front of them. He stood by them under the tree while they ate.

When God turns up, it means the time of fulfilment has come. It means the enablement (strength) for fulfilment has come, therefore press into Him and move forward, in Jesus name.

Brothers and sisters, as we leave Peniel, it is not a time to go and relax; rather it is a time to press forward with God. It is a time to prevail with God. It is a time to pray as you have never prayed. It is a time to reflect on the prayers and declarations of Peniel. It is a time to go study and reflect on the word from Peniel, the bible says once has God spoken and twice have I heard, faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

“Mohamed Alli said I hated every minute of training but I said, don’t quit, suffer now, and leave the rest of your life as a champion.” Scientist has also calculated that it takes ten thousand hours of training in any particular field to become a master of it. Therefore, you need to spend quality time with the Lord to become a master of the word of God. You need to push and push until you get to there, the bible says those that know their God shall be strong and do exploit. You have been anointed therefore go! Do exploit in Jesus name.

What do you do when God shows up? Malachi 3:16 says then those whose lives honored God got together and talked it over. God saw what they were doing and listened in. A book was opened in God’s presence and minutes were taken of the meeting, with the names of the God-fearers written down, all the names of those who honored God’s name (MSG). God take note of everything you do or say, and when you say, I have heard it and I receive it, God sees it and He is listening! “And He says it is what I heard you say, I will do.” Therefore keep confessing His word and by doing this you`re speaking His blessings to manifestation in your life.

In Malachi 17-18 God said, “They’re mine, all mine. They’ll get special treatment when I go into action. I treat them with the same consideration and kindness that parents give the child who honors them. Once more you’ll see the difference it makes between being a person who does the right thing and one who doesn’t, between serving God and not serving him.” Brothers and sisters, God is in action this season, and so it is time to press forward, whatever you have received in Peniel, take action and move forward with God. Whatever it is that God has said concerning you in Peniel receive it, receive your blessing, receive your healing, receive your wife, receive your husband and receive your children in Jesus name.

What happens when you see Jesus?

Then they came to the other side of the sea, to the country of the Gadarenes. And when He had come out of the boat, immediately there met Him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit, who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no one could bind him, not even with chains,  because he had often been bound with shackles and chains. And the chains had been pulled apart by him, and the shackles broken in pieces; neither could anyone tame him. And always, night and day, he was in the mountains and in the tombs, crying out and cutting himself with stones.

 When he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and worshiped Him.Mark 5:1-6

The bible passage tells that when Jesus came out of the boat He met a man with unclean spirit, and no one could bind this man, not even with chains. The phrase “no one could bind him” tells us some demonic spirits were restraining the man because he has pulled the chains apart and the shackles were broken into pieces. Listen to this! vs. 5 says  he was always in the mountain and in the tombs crying out and  cutting himself with stones, please note that demonic forces left unchallenged will always try to bring harm to the person they are affecting. The in-result is that Satan wants you dead and off the scene and it is God that wants you alive and working in your favour.

We have created a picture of a man that nothing can be done, the interesting thing is that in our religion mind we would have expected the next verse to read something like “and Jesus went to Peniel camp meeting and stood behind the wonderful podium and began to preach and the wild man got saved.” Remember! This was a wild man, who breaks the chains and no one could bind him. But vs. 6 says when he saw Jesus from afar he ran and worshipped Him. Let us review this verse thoroughly, nothing yet has happened because Jesus has not even performed a miracle for him so the only thing that has happened at this point is this wild man saw Jesus and he ran and worshipped him.

Now let us examine and dissect what happens when you see Jesus. When the wild man saw Jesus, he ran and worshipped Him. And guess what happened! The demonic forces rearranged themselves and they began to speak “What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I implore You by God that You do not torment me.” Note that this is not the young man speaking anymore; it is the demonic forces speaking. It is possible this is the first time of him seeing Jesus, but I would have to say Jesus has seen him long before he saw Jesus, in fact Jesus saw him from the other side of the sea. Then Jesus said to Himself I am going to cross the Sea of Galilee to that place where they raise pigs, to talk to a man who lives in the cemetery.

It is almost like a divine appointment when Jesus stepped out of the boat and this young man from the cemetery sees Him. Obviously, he did not know who Jesus was but something inside of him recognised that Jesus is here and He is the only hope for him. Listen to this! Before now, nobody could talked to him nor could stopped him and although they tried to stop him with physical chains but there were  spiritual chains in him that were stronger than the physical chains, the demonic forces made him cut himself and do all sort of crazy things. If those demonic forces are that strong, it seemed to me then the demonic forces could have stopped or overwhelmed him from running to Jesus.

But there is something in the power of “the first glance” There is something in the power of when you actually see Jesus for who He really is, that no matter how many demons the man had, they could not stop him from running to Jesus.

Brothers and sisters, the devil will normally make you to feel like you`re just fighting against one demon whereas sometimes, you are fighting against thousands of demons. And if you get a mental picture of the fact that you weren`t just in a battle with one but with thousands, even though you walk away with a bruise on your leg or a black eye you`ll feel a little better understanding how many demons you were fighting against. The bible says he bruise our heel but we bruise his head. Halleluiah! Heel wound may cause you to limp but the head bruise is a failure. Sometimes in the process of fighting a demonic attack, you may end up with a limp but keep bruising on his head. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers in high places.

Demons do not occupy space but they occupy your mind. The capacity of our mind can remember two thousand names, which means the mind can occupy two thousands demons and this make me to believe this young man was fill up with two thousands of demonic interference. Because of the demonic attack on this man, he could not run to meet his mother but he was able to run to Jesus. So what is it that gave him the power to run to Jesus? It is because when you see Jesus, chains fall. When you see Jesus chains breaks. Not when Jesus sees you, for He has been fixing his eyes on you a long time.

May be your case may not be fighting against two thousands demons but may be demonic oppression thereby making you to feel depressed,  but the key fact is that, whatever the case may be, in your long dark night you have to keep your eyes on Jesus because there is something in the power of keeping your eyes on Jesus. When Peter was walking on the water, he did fine as long as he kept his eyes on Jesus. That is the key factor to this young man deliverance because the moment he looked at Jesus, for one moment he felt a breadth of fresh air.

There is something inside humanity that long for freedom and that is why as a nation, as a church and as people we need freedom. And that is why the moment the young man saw a crack on the door he said to himself this may be my only chance to freedom and hence he ran to Jesus, and the moment after that, the demons had no power over him because Jesus reached out to him and took the spiritual chains off him.

What happens when you see Jesus, you say to yourself this is my chance and you`ve got to take advantage of that chance. Don’t let it pass you bye.

When Jesus set the man free from the demonic spirit, the demons pleaded with Jesus that He shouldn`t send them out of the country (vs, 10), that He should send them to the pig that they may enter them. And at once, Jesus gave them permission to enter the pigs and all the demons went out and entered the pigs and the pigs started running into the ocean and jumped into the ocean and drown themselves in the ocean. O I learnt from that, is that people can live with something that pigs can’t stand. Another thing I learnt from that, is that the first action the demonic spirit took was to destroy the things they inhabit, I believed if they have been left inside that man,  and since he`s been cutting himself already, the next action he would have taken would have been suicide. So Jesus came to stop the suicide. He cast the demonic spirit into the pigs, the pigs couldn’t stand it, and they killed themselves. And then the villages got so upset that Jesus killed all their pigs and they said to Jesus, no you cannot stay here any longer, you have just caused us so many money, two thousands pig have been destroyed, No! You must leave now.

I want you to understand that, if two thousands demons could not stop this man from running to Jesus, then the devil can’t stop you, the devil can’t stop your children, the devil can’t stop your breakthrough, the devil can’t stop your deliverance, the devil can’t stop your healing, because greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world. By his grace, you are more than a conqueror.

In the just concluded Peniel, chains have been broken, sicknesses have be banned. All you have to do is to keep looking onto Jesus. Keep your eyes on Jesus. If this is what set you, this is what is going to keep you free. As you look onto Jesus, the gate of hell will not prevail over you. “Why will the gate of hell not prevail?” Because when Jesus died, He went to hell and took back the keys of life and He gave it to the church and say “here is the keys to the kingdom, whatever you bind on earth is bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth is loosed in heaven. This means the devil no longer have the keys to life and so he cannot lock the door, therefore you`ve to understand the devil cannot keep you in sickness, cannot keep you in poverty because the gate of hell will not prevail. You are free. You are free. You are free in Jesus name.
